I have been told that this new season I am entering is one full of goodbyes. They started over a month ago as I said goodbye to friends and family in Australia. Today they continued again. It's amazing how quickly relationships can form when you are all there for the same reason, with our faithContinue reading "Goodbyes"
Week 3 in Texas
The past week has been a very full on week. We've been in different sessions everyday from 8am until 4pm (plus a few breaks in between). The sessions have been really good, but exhausting. It has felt a bit like being at church camp or conference. So much great teaching, but a lot of it.Continue reading "Week 3 in Texas"
Second Week in Texas
My second week in Texas was a very full and busy week. Monday we had a full day of classes starting our Basic Firefighting training. Mostly lectures with a little bit of practical in the afternoon getting our equipment sorted before our big day of practical exercises on Tuesday. One Week in Texas
Currently, it is Sunday evening here in Texas. I have been here at the Mercy Ships campus for exactly 1 week. After a fun weekend in Dallas, I arrived at the Mercy Ships campus last Sunday afternoon. There was only one other person in the house when I got there. The house is split intoContinue reading "One Week in Texas"
Let The Adventure Begin
Today is the day I leave. I'm writing this sitting in the Sydney airport after running through both the domestic and international airports to make it just in time for boarding to begin. One Month
There is only 1 month until I leave for Texas. There is a lot to do in the next month, but I am very excited. This week we have the first of my 2 events. We will be hosting a 3-course dinner where I will talk more about Mercy Ships and exactly what I willContinue reading "One Month"
Fundraising Events
My job with Mercy Ships is not a paid position. I have to raise all of my own funds as this is a missions opportunity. Thankfully, I've been getting a lot of supply teaching days which is going a long way to helping me support myself. However, I am still going to need help. AsContinue reading "Fundraising Events"
Accepted (Officially)
I was very excited to wake up this morning to find out that I have officially been accepted to teach with Mercy Ships this year. Now that everything is official, I can start to organise my fundraising, start looking at flights and buying any necessary items that I will need to survive on a shipContinue reading "Accepted (Officially)"
Chaplaincy Step
Over the past few days I completed the next step in my Mercy Ships journey, chaplaincy. This started with an email informing me of an assessment I needed to complete and then to organise a video chat to discuss the findings. This was something sent to me by one of the Member Care chaplains. TheirContinue reading "Chaplaincy Step"
Medically Approved
After receiving my unofficial offer to be the new English teach on board the Africa Mercy, I had to undergo a medical evaluation by my doctor. Thankfully I was able to get an appointment within a week and went along for all the tests. After my appointment I needed to get a blood test. ThisContinue reading "Medically Approved"
